Post questions and useful info about Deuteronomy 32 here.

This post has been brought over from the Deut 31 page. It was originally posted by Justin

Deuteronomy 32:21

21 'They have made Me jealous with what is not God; They have provoked Me to anger with their [fn]idols. So I will make them jealous with those who are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation,

What vivid foreshadowing and perfect justice of the days when the legalistic Jews would be judged by gentile nations. How confusing this verse would've been to early readers. Do we live under judgement of a "not a people" now because we worship modern day "not gods"?

Deuteronomy 32:39-42

39 ‘See now that I, I am He,
And there is no god besides Me;
It is I who put to death and give life.
I have wounded and it is I who heal,
And there is no one who can deliver from My hand.
40 ‘Indeed, I lift up My hand to heaven,
And say, as I live forever,
41 If I sharpen My flashing sword,
And My hand takes hold on justice,
I will render vengeance on My adversaries,
And I will repay those who hate Me.
42 ‘I will make My arrows drunk with blood,
And My sword will devour flesh,
With the blood of the slain and the captives,
From the long-haired leaders of the enemy.’

Not a very nice picture of God. In fact you may wrestle with some of the images here. How can the God of Love be this kind of God. But can you find the mercy of God in this passage?
